Shadia imprisoned 3 years for not converting to Islam   Full Story

In A surprise verdict, Shobra Criminal court in Egypt sentenced Shadia Nagi Ibrahim Elsisi 47 y yesterday 21 November 2007 to 3 years imprisonment for forgery “she did not commit” and for not following her father’s conversion to Islam. Father deserted home and converted to Islam in 1962, father returned to his family and Christianity, changed his document to appear as Christian a few years later, family lived a normal Christian life and all the children grew you at home as Christians believers, attending churchs and conducting their lives in the normal Christian manner.

Apparently the father, Nagi Ibrahim Elsisi, using some one he then knew, a Muslim employee in the local Civil Registration Office called Ramadan Hassan Hussain Ali who was in court yesterday and was given a one year suspended sentence for forging the document!

It is rather a nasty surprise to force some one who grew up as a Christian to be sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for not following her father to Islam, during his short period of conversion, while her faith is Christian in a country claims to be a civil state Ramses El-Naggar, Shadia attorney said in a telephone conversation today.

The Egyptian constitution claims equality for all citizens in article 40, and freedom of religion in article 46, also Egypt is a signatory to International declaration of human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The United Copts of Great Britain call upon the Egyptian government to appeal and reverse this unfair judgment, to stop the infiltration of the Egyptian Judicial system with radical Wahabi Islamists and call upon the international Human Rights organisations,  friendly governments, the EEC,  USA to pressurise the Egyptian government to guarantee the Freedom of Religion.
